Tasmania's Ruins have become widely known and respected as our premiere Black Metal band, The brainchild of Alex Pope who has also utilised the talents of Psycroptic drummer Dave Haley with Alex handling guitar, bass and vocal duties, other members from Pyscroptic and The Amenta are drafted in for live performances which has seen them sharing stages with the likes of Satyricon, Celtic Frost & Agents of Abhorrence. "Cauldron" is the third instalment of this two man black metal assault and follows on 2005's masterpiece "Spun Fourth as Dark Nets" weaving dark and chilling rhythms against the gargantuan beats of Dave Hayley giving an epic almost conceptual feel to the album, Alex Popes vocals are unique within the black metal realm owing more to Tom G Warrior (Celtic Frost) or Cronos (Venom) than any of the black metal vocalists prominent in today's scene, If you thought true Black Metal could only be forged in the dark and freezing Norwegian mountains - prepare to stand corrected.
