WINTERSTORM - Cathyron (CD)

The third offering from the German band Winterstorm, is in my opinion following in much the same vane as its two predecessors' "A Coming Storm" and "Kings Will Fall".

Cathyron is an enthralling mix of power metal and Norse Viking legend, Combining the medieval folk lore with the melodic array of instrumental sounds and the unforgettable choruses brings to the listener a powerful and rocking sound that is as fresh and enjoyable as the band could have hoped, The sceptre of fantasy metal has been passed on successfully and Dio would be proud.

From the opening track A Hero Rises to the final track The Elements Strife, you're treated to a traditional mix of Nordic Myth and metal that storms into your room and delivers that unmistakable sound that we have come to expect from German bands; those deep throated authoritarian lyrics that combine so well with the hauntingly fantastical sound, Elders of Wisdom is one such track that leaves you no doubt why Winterstorm have gained such a devotional following over the last few years, With riffs a plenty you won't be disappointed by this unique take on a traditional sound as evidenced in track 7, The Maze.
